When my client called me to her house, she showed me her newly refinished entry doors and sidelights with leaded glass inserts that were in desperate need of repair.
A Possible Solution
I explained to her how we come to the house and repair the broken panels right on her front porch. I said that we would match the existing glass and she would not be without her front door because it would be fully repaired before we left.
But that is not what she had in mind
She was not too fond of the existing glass pattern and wanted to replace the old leaded glass with something new. It needed to be of solid construction and obscure the view from the outside but without color.
I suggested to her that diamond bevels with the added texture of glue chip on the flat surface would provide her with the privacy she was looking for. I assured her that the sparkle of the bevels would not be diminished.
When I came back to my studio, I designed her 4 entry openings to scale with 2 different options – 3” x 5” diamonds and 4” x 7” diamonds. I included the price of the glass for either option and emailed the drawings to her address.
What about Installation?
I use excellent installers who are bonded and licensed. Each one is an expert in his field. In this case I recommended the one who is an Irish Craftsman, skilled in the art of finish carpentry. He is meticulous and clean. He gave the client an estimate for installation pointing out that the wrap-around moldings are old and tricky to remove and re-install.
